Clarissa Explains it all

Where we live we have a community play room that we enjoy going to, especially on really hot summer days. Clarissa found this random toy in there, I'm not even sure what it was, I think it was some sort of basket made out of fabric. She put it on her head and started riding this little bike around, and called it her bike helmet. I just thought she looked pretty cute.

The other day we were eating corn on the cob and when Clarissa finished eating her piece she exclaimed "I have corn bones in my teeth!"

While shopping at the grocery store yesterday I walked down an aisle and realized it wasn't the one I wanted, so I said to Clarissa "this isn't the right aisle." And Clarissa immediately responded by saying "is it the left aisle?"

Recently Clarissa has become very interested in the definition of words. She is always asking us what everything means.
"What does shin mean?"
"What does 'a lot' mean?"
"What does 'probably' mean?"
"What does 'maybe' mean?"

I love that she is very interested in the world around her and understanding everything, but sometimes it is really hard to explain what certain words mean to a 4 year old. We finally gave up when she asked us "what does 'what' mean?"

Father's Day

Since Father's Day was only 3 days after Clarissa's birthday, her treasure hunt was still fresh on her mind. She decided to do a special treasure hunt for her Daddy. She drew the pictures and figured out where she wanted to hide the clues. (Is anyone surprised that it was exactly the same as hers?)

Quinn had fun deciphering her drawings, luckily she was willing to help.

He found the treasure chest which had one of his favorite treats in it, and some kid plastic utensils! Again, this was all Clarissa's doing, which I think made it more fun, funny, and special.

Clarissa's 4th Birthday

I'm finally getting around to blogging again, it's only been about 4 weeks since Clarissa's birthday, but better late than never.

Clarissa's birthday started with breakfast in bed, which has become a tradition for birthday's and special occasions, at least according to Clarissa. We made her favorite breakfast, eggs with sugar (German pancakes/puff pancakes), bacon, strawberries, and OJ. Clayton absolutely loved eating breakfast with her, and she was very kind and gave him the first bite.

For about 8 months Clarissa has been asking for a Peter Pan cake for her birthday, so it turned into a pirate party. The kids decorated treasure chests, made eye patches, and went on a treasure hunt. Quinn made a fun pirate map, and the kids had fun searching for the treasure chest.

It turned out well to do a pirate party since all of Clarissa's friends that she invited were boys, except for Elly. They probably would not have enjoyed a princess party quite as much.

Clarissa with her gigantic pirate ship cake. I was just going to make the pirate ship, but Quinn thought it needed water underneath, and that it needed to be two layers thick. Needless to say, we had plenty of birthday cake. It was a fun cake to make, and Clarissa was very happy with her Peter Pan pirate ship. She is already excited to turn 5 years old, because that means she will get to go to kindergarten. I hope this year doesn't go as fast as she wants it to. They grow up way too fast as it is!!!
